Why would your character make a good (or bad) phantom thief?
Pros:
Vanitas is sneaky, a quick learner, and intelligent, qualities he's had to develop due to being underneath the tutelage of Master Xehanort. From easily knowing when to keep his mouth shut when he's prowling around (such as tailing the group in the LoD), or knowing which buttons to press in order to conjure certain reactions (see him going to threaten Ventus' friends to get him to go somewhere when he realizes no other tactic will work.) Obviously this is an excellent quality that'll work in thieving, because as a thief one would have to be able to trick others as well as be sneaky, which are things Vanitas is easily capable of being.
Vanitas has immense confidence in his abilities, and in an occupation such as thieving, a quality like this is necessary given that in order to help pull off a heist, some degree of confidence is helpful in being able to make it possible in the first place. There's no question he has faith in his ability to come on top of any type of situation that involves his own physical prowess, proven in his taunts and boasts to characters in-game time and time again.
Vanitas has incredible drive and willpower to the point where it might be his most valuable skill mentalwise. No matter the situation, if Vanitas has a goal, he will do everything in his power to see it through to the end. Exemplified in canon where he proves himself capable of fighting two battles simultaneously - one mentally and one on the outside, literally, without showing much strain until he's defeated in the final fight. It's a spectacular quality to have as a thief, given that it'll push him through most impossible-looking situations as giving up is not something he has in mind.
Cons:
Vanitas occasionally can lack patience when he hasn't received a result he's attempted to achieve, leaving him to be prematurely make impulsive decisions that go against the wishes of even those he's working with (see: Master Xehanort.) Not exactly the best aspect when there needs to be a lot of waiting around in a heist; he may decide to bruteforce his way through if he feels that sneaking around won't get him to the objective faster which might alert parties to his presence.
Most important of all, Vanitas is used to working alone, and is not entirely the type of person to embrace the spirit of teamwork unless his arm is twisted into it. His tendency to prefer doing things his own way may cause him to butt heads if he needs to go on a mission or otherwise with another person because he'd likely need to at least try to cooperative in order for things to be successful. He's also naturally inclined to be antagonistic and blunt to the point of obvious rudeness, which can make teamwork all the more harder, as well endanger the success of the heist.
Specialization: Hacker, because it'll be interesting for him to get into a new spectrum of things. Though might change to Thief later on.
Starter thief outfit: Ridiculously large red fluffy hat with a light feather in it, a long black trench coat, with a red loose fitting shirt, a red scarf, black belt around his waist, and black pants with black leather boots.
Powers: As a Keyblade wielder, Vanitas is able to use his keyblade to open/unlock items/places/hearts, should he wish it.
He's also able to channel darkness into his spells (and darkness itself) through his Keyblade, adding to their strength.
He can cast high level spells, mainly Dark Thundaga, Dark Blizzaga, and Dark Firaga.
Vanitas is inhumanly fast, able to teleport via usage of darkness, and his reaction time is inordinarily swift, allowing himself to counter after someone's struck him. He is incredibly durable and has a high pain tolerance, making him a difficult opponent to lay unconscious, even if he is capable of being defeated numerous times.
He can also use dark corridors as a way to teleport farther distances across the world itself, and even to places off-planet.
He can summon creatures called Unversed. They're based off of his emotions and he can summon an endless amount of them; however hurting them does cause Vanitas harm so that is the major drawback (i.e., if he summons a multitude of them and a myriad of them are defeated, he could fall unconscious from the strain and pain.)
